Edmund Karl Heinz Spittler

With his family by his side, Ed passed away on August 19, 2023 after a difficult battle with cancer. A life too short, he will be deeply missed. Born in Baiersdorf, Germany and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Ed was a resident of Bakersfield for 25 years. He was the proud owner and operator of Dent Experts for over two decades. He built a reputation throughout the automotive and local community as not only the best in his field but as a man of upstanding character. From an early age, Ed loved the outdoors, with fishing a particular passion. He never shied away from an opportunity to share stories about his youthful adventures. Before moving to California in the 1990’s, he and his brother and friends regularly fished and camped at Bowman’s Sand Bar in the Fraser River, British Columbia, Okanagan Territory for many years. Once in Bakersfield, when he couldn’t slip away to the Kern River, the beach, or the mountains, he could be found over the grill in the backyard preparing chef’s masterpieces for friends and family. Family came first for Ed and Sharon in their 28 year marriage .In addition to fully embracing holiday and special occasion celebrations, they were regular attendees at their children’s school events and sport competitions. He was active for many years in his children’s youth sports in Bakersfield as a coach, sponsor, and official. He was very proud of his children’s many athletic accomplishments. As his children grew, he was equally as proud of their character and respective talents in academics, firefighting, art and business. Family members, friends, business associates and customers will miss his many skills, dependable helpful presence, honesty and sense of humor. His strong yet gentle demeanor projected optimism as a role model for others. He is survived by his wife Sharon and children Collin, Ryon and Jenna, whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by his mother Helga Sonnenberg, brother Michael Spittler and best friend Dean Preter. He was predeceased by his father, Werner Spittler. Although the life he lived was cut short, his impact on the lives of others will not be. The community as well as the ones who were blessed to be at his side throughout the years will always have his example of how great a father, husband, friend, son and all-around perfect sought-after person we all should strive to be…missed by all. With thanks to the many friends, family and health care professionals who gave support to Ed and his family over the past few months. A celebration of life is being planned. Memorial details will be posted at a later date.
