Carol was raised in South Dakota and Southern California. While a young girl in Spearfish, South Dakota, she participated in Girl Scouts and spoke fondly of Camp Pawhawsapa. She spent time with her many cousins and aunts and uncles on their farms. After moving to Long Beach, California, she attended Jordan High School where she participated in band, playing the clarinet, she was also a cheerleader. It was at Jordan High School that she met Richard (Dick) Jacoby. Dick played football and Carol cheered him on. They shared a love of the beach. They graduated from Jordan High in 1956. After leaving the Army, Dick and Carol returned to Southern California, where daughter Leslie and son David were born. Carol was a stay at home mom while Dick worked. They both attended night school pursuing college degrees. Carol was an excellent seamstress, PTA mom, and Girl Scout Leader. In 1971 the family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado.
