Alfred Lewis Rainwater

November 12, 1926 - November 26, 2016

After celebrating his 90th birthday on Nov 12, Alfred L. Rainwater passedaway peacefully on the morning of Nov 26, 2016, at Rose Garden Assisted LivingFacility. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Dolphis and Pearl Rainwater. Alfred met his wife and the love of his life, Ruth Sweazy and they moved toBakersfield in 1948. He joined the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons'Int'l Assoc. (OPCMIA) on Jan 29, 1945, in Odessa, Texas and he remained adues-paying member until his death. In May of this year, he was awarded his70-year membership certificate. He was so proud of this and loved to talk aboutthe many places he worked Ulysses, Kansas to Odessa, Texas and numerousplaces throughout Kern County. He poured cement at the original BakersfieldInn, Lerdo Detention Facility, the bridge across the Kern River in the canyon andthe California Aquaduct, to name a few. He was highly respected for his expertiseand was frequently consulted on the best way the get the job done right. Alfred was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth; son, Allen,and stepson, Jim Wright. He leaves behind son, Larry; daughter, Linda Petree,stepson Wayne Wright, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, Dec 2nd from 4-8pm at Mission Family Mortuary(531 California Ave.) Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec 3rd, 1:30pm at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) Pastor Jack M. Lee, Jr. will officiate. The family would like to thank Optimal Hospice and the staff at Rose Gardenfor their caring and kindness. A very special "thank you" to Jack Enos and KayThornton who became dad's "family" there.
