Louis Joseph Becherucci

Lou Becherucci (94), a former resident of Apple Valley, passed away on June 30, 2023 with his loving wife Loretta by his side. He and Loretta lived in Apple Valley 40 years before moving to Bakersfield. Lou was very loved and respected by his family. He was extremely fortunate to find the woman of his dreams and spend 69 wonderful years as best friends with her. Together Lou and Loretta raised three beautiful daughters, Celeste Allen, Lisa (Bill) Merz and Felicia (Rich) Simonis. So he would never forget their birthdays, Loretta planned well and had them so their birthdays were Feb 1, Feb 2 and Feb 3. Lou’s birthday was Feb 7th. Every year, the family got together to celebrate the February birthdays. We always could count on gaining weight in February will all the celebrating. Dad was a proud Korean war vet. He could be seen wearing his favorite Korean War Vet hats on outings and family gatherings. He also loved to golf and really enjoyed getting out on the golf course with his buddies. Lou was most proud of the hole in one he made that no one ever saw happen. He also enjoyed playing football with his kids and grandkids when he and Loretta hosted family dinners. Throughout their 69 years together, Lou and Loretta traveled extensively, as owners of Travel With Us, a travel agency in their beloved Apple Valley. One of their most memorable visits was to Italy where they were able to actually meet some long lost relatives that showed them around and filled in many gaps on family history. Of course, during that trip they were also able to eat plenty of Dad’s favorite food, PASTA. Lou and Loretta also had many other memorable trips to places like Alaska, Hawaii, Fiji, and Lourdes France. It was in Lourdes where they were able to bring back some holy water from the grotto. 30 years later, the water is still in the glass votive bottle and has neither evaporated, nor had sediment form. It truly is miracle water. Being a devout Catholic and long time member of the Italian Catholic Federation the Lourdes trip and visits to other religious sites were extremely meaningful to both Lou and Loretta. In his spare time, Lou enjoyed watching golf on TV, a great nap, and drinking root beer. Above all, he especially enjoyed spaghetti and meat balls followed by a big bowl of ice cream. In the days following his passing, some of his family was able to gather and enjoy a spaghetti and meat ball dinner in his honor. Dad also enjoyed his wine. He was very proud of the fact that he helped his father make wine at their Ohio home when he was a boy. He took pride in stating that “We never put a damn thing in it”! From his humble start as the youngest twin in a family of Italian emigrants, Lou and Loretta went on to have not only the three daughters, but 5 grandchildren -Kellie, Chris, Tony (Sarah), Clare (Jory) and Angie (Anthony) and 4 great grandchildren – Bella, Sophie, Evie and Conrad. While Lou is not physically with us today, his love and influence will be felt in all his family and those who knew him. He was a great husband, friend, father and grandpa. Thank you, dad for your love, and guidance. May you have the comfort of God’s presence and be reunited with your family that you so much missed and loved.
