Howard Ralph Setser

Howard Ralph Setser, born in Gentry, Arkansas, left this world on the morning of October 8, 2023, in Bakersfield, California at the age of 93. Howard's journey through life was marked by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He was a man of honor, whose memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He exemplified bravery and patriotism throughout his service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. In 1992, after dedicating three decades of his life to Gray Lift Inc, Howard retired from his career as a mechanic. His diligent work and expertise were deeply appreciated by his colleagues and employer. Following his retirement, Howard and his beloved wife, Dorothy, embarked on a new adventure. They opened "Nana's Country Cupboard," a gourmet food and gift store that quickly became a beloved establishment in the community. Their joint venture was a testament to their enduring partnership and entrepreneurial spirit. Howard had a remarkable gift for storytelling and a genuine love for conversation. He would captivate those around him with tales of his past experiences, sharing his wisdom and humor freely. Howard and Dorothy loved camping with their camping group and friends, but most of all with family and grandkids. In their earlier years they enjoyed their time together square dancing with the Joaquin Square Dance Group. Howard is survived: by his loving wife, Dorothy of 69 years, his son Terry Setser, and wife, Holly; daughter, Tami Shanholtzer, and husband, Seth, and his adoring grandchildren: CL Simmons, Katie Frederick and husband Ashton, Lacey Walrath and husband Chris, Lucas Shanholtzer and wife Fay, Landon Shanholtzer and wife Elena. He was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the legacy he leaves behind. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Setser, and wife Sherry; sisters Mae Robertson, Bertie Fisher and husband Don, Charlene Edwards, and Linda Price and husband Sam. Howard was predeceased by his parents, William Ralph Setser and wife Mabel, mother Nettie Carlson, and husband Al. He is also predeceased by three sisters Maryanna, Patty, and Oleta. In the hearts of those who knew Howard may he forever remain a symbol of love, strength, and cherished memories. His legacy will continue to inspire us all. May he rest in peace until the glorious resurrection morning by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
