Thomas Michael Cierley

Tom left this world after a short illness on November 26, 2015. We will miss his sense of humor and living life to the fullest. He was born and raised in “The Dale” also known as Upper North Bakersfield. After graduating from North High School in 1966 and attending Bakersfield College for a year, he decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. During that time, he married the girl of his dreams, Barbara, just before leaving for Viet Nam. After returning home from Viet Name and getting out of the Marine Corps in 1970, they moved to New Cuyama, to start their new life and family. In June of 1970, he went to work for Arco Oil and Gas Company. In March on 1978 they moved back to Bakersfield. He stayed with Arco until 1999, when Area Energy bought them out. He worked for Aera Energy for eight years. Since that time, he had been Consulting for Chevron, Occidental and PXP. Tom retired in 2013. Tom always lived his life to the fullest. In his young married life he played Fast-pitch softball with some of the most talented players from Taft. Tom was a 20 gallon blood donor with Houchin Community Blood Bank. He coached girls softball and Northwest Baseball for several years. After that, he decided to start playing slow-pitch softball for a few years and in his early 50’s, he played adult baseball with the 18 to 25 year olds. After a few injuries (probably because he was too slow), he decided it was time to hang up the cleats. Maybe, he just didn’t want to grow up. In 1981 Tom rejoined the Marine Corps Reserve as a 32 year old Corporal. During this time he traveled all over the world. He went to Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Alaska and Iraq twice. He continued serving the Corps until he retired in 2007 at the rank of CWO-5. He loved his country, and loved his Corps. He had to retire, “because the old body just couldn’t do it anymore”. Tom was proceeded in death by the love of his life of 46 years wife, Barbara and Father, Andrew D. Cierley. He is survived by daughter Lisa Klinger, daughter Erin and husband Mike Endes, son Kevin and wife Vanessa. Six Grandchildren, Clayton and Dalton Endes, Justin and Allysa Klinger, Kai and Kenyon Cierley. Mother, Marjorie R. Browning. Brother Jack and wife Donna Cierley of LaHabra and sister Jennifer Williams of Bakersfield.
